    Thanks for very informative video. One quick question, the LENGTH, is it the length of the tumbler itself or the length of the design? Do you taper warp the design first then rotate based on how the rotary is set up on the bed of the laser? Thanks.

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse 2 місяці тому

      Length of where you measure your diameters from. So if you measure top and bottom of the cup, then the length is the full length of the cup. If you take a measurement from a mid-point then your length is to that midpoint. It's basically plotting the taper. I would say yes to your 2nd question. Setup all of your artwork and then as the last step you would rotate it to align with your workpiece.

    There is a big difference in engraving darkness using power scale. For example. Engraving two squares. Square A is at 300mm/sec and 10% power with 100% power scale. Square B at 300 mm/sec 100% power with 10% power scale. For some reason Square B engraves darker. Wondering if you have any ideas as to why that might be? Thanks

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse 2 місяці тому

      Hi there. This is an older video and I haven't played with power scaling much since they introduced the material test generator directly. That said I'll try out your scenario when I get a chance and see what it looks like. I'd have to look at the generated gcode to see what the actual power value is that it's sending to the controller but from a math perspective they should be the same value....at least in my head.

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse 2 місяці тому

      @jacketpatches so I just did some testing and 100% power with 10% power scale produces exactly the same gcode as 10% power with 100% power scale so in theory the instruction set being output to your laser is identical. Have you tried on multiple materials? Maybe difference in wood grain if you're using wood?

I have failed so many time to use the circle array and now understand where I was going wrong. I've found blue tape is about the best option for this. Just butt the tape strips instead of overlap so you get a consistent cut (overlap may require more power). Also having air assist on helps greatly with this. It's been a long time since I've done any real marquetry work unfortunately but I'd love to get back into it.

    Great video, thank you for sharing. Do you have any tips for getting the artwork to accurately align to the jig once it is cut and bolted to the table?

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse 2 місяці тому

      Getting the artwork to align in the jig is pretty straight forward. Lock the shapes for the jig so you don't accidentally move them and then just position your artwork accordingly. The hard part for me was getting the jig aligned with reality on the laser since I cut the jig for one laser on a different laser. If it were doing this all on one laser, I could just do my first cut from a reference point and always start from there. Does that make sense?

    • @tubehead204
      @tubehead204 2 місяці тому

      @@thetinkerverse It totally makes sense. This jig to reality is the part that stumps me too. I am trying to figure out the easiest method to get that alignment perfect(or at least acceptable) without hundreds of test burns and trial and errors. Getting the fiber aligned precisely to dead center on the bed seems like a logical first step to me.

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse 2 місяці тому

      Once I screwed the jig down I just used a couple of scrap pieces and kept burning designs over them until I got the on-screen position to match the reality of the jig. Then I locked the jig tool layer and saved it for future projects. From there I just started dropping content into the locked jig on screen and seems to be good to go now.
